Incheon
Port in Korea, is a high-tech World Class Port, handling ships up to
50,000 WLT,
...and is working hard to emerge as the central
port for North East Asia.
As with many maritime locations however, it
suffers with seagull and pigeon problems which can play havoc with
high tech equipment used to operate the port.
This case study covers bird repellent activity at
the Incheon Regional Maritime Affairs & Port Office, where high
tech equipment controls the water levels and operation of the Lock
Gates

The
Problem:
Heavy soiling to walkways by seagull and pigeon droppings made life
very unpleasant and a health risk for passengers and workers alike.
The birds, which were living in the water level
control towers were also causing structural corrosion
with their deposits.

The Solution:
In June 2007, a trial application of Bird Free Fire Gel
was undertaken in one of the Water Control Towers. The
trial was a great success and so in December 2008 some 800 tubes of
Bird free Fire Gel were deployed to protect the other 10 operational
Water Level Control Towers

Mr. Oh Kyeong Sun, a manger of
the environment management team, explains;
Seagulls and pigeons live in the towers that
control the water levels.
The high level of bird droppings was causing displeasure
and risk to passengers and workers, and was also corroding the structure.
During the first year after installation of Bird Free
Fire Gel on the trial site, we knew that it had worked perfectly, so
we then use Bird Free to protect the other ten control towers.
