To achieve a fire rating, a safe must maintain an internal temperature at or below 200 degrees Centigrade (the point at which paper will ignite). Each fire Safe is rated according to specific tests carried out on that particular make & model. Ratings are normally expressed as a number of minutes combined with the test (or test body) applied, e.g. VDMA 60 would signify a safe rated to protect its contents for 60 minutes based on a European VDMA standard test. Most Fire Safes offer limited protection against theft and carry low insurance ratings for storage of cash or other valuables.
