Protecting your windows

Internal or External Grilles, Bars or Shutters

Fixed grilles or bars will probably offer the cheapest form of protection, however may not be suitable for premises which are regularly occupied, showcase type premises, or windows where emergency exit may be required (e.g. in the event of fire, etc.).

Retractable, opening or removable grilles, bars or shutters can be opened or removed whilst the premises are occupied thus overcoming the often voiced objection that such measures make it feel like being in prison.

Enhance the Glass Security

Options include installing double or triple glazing, replacing standard glass with bullet proof glazing panels (an expensive option), application of window film, installation of bomb blast curtains, etc.

Installation of window alarms

These could be simple stand alone units or alternatively units which are linked to or part of the building alarm.

Note: break glass alarms are widely available, however it is interesting that when a well known security magazine approached the alarm manufacturers with a view to carrying out comparison / performance tests, - not a single manufacturer wished to supply their product for the test!
