Safety Lockouts

Safety lockouts are used extensively as a means of protecting engineers  working on electrical apparatus, circuits, power cables, etc.

In operation, once the isolator switch controlling the power supply to the circuit or apparatus to be worked on has been switched to the "Off" position, the switchbox door will be secured in the closed position by the lockout, which itself will be secured in place by one or more padlocks (one for each technician working on the circuit).

Each engineer working on the project will be issued with a padlock (normally uniquely colour coded to help with identification) which he/she will apply to the lockout (the standard lockout accommodates up to 6 padlocks).

The lockout cannot be released until all padlocks are removed, thus eliminating the possibility of the power being reconnected at the isolator switch whilst any engineer is still working on the system.
