The coronavirus pandemic has prompted widespread concern for hygiene and cleanliness in our workplaces and homes. Our government has endeavoured to impress upon people the importance of thorough hand-washing as this is known to help prevent the spread of infection. Ensuring our homes and workplaces are clean and sanitised is an important tactic that will help bring this pandemic to an end. Here are some practical cleaning and sanitisation guidelines that will help prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The coronavirus lockdown has changed all our lives and it’s having a profound and clear impact on crime. In some areas of the UK police forces are reporting that crime has decreased by more than 20% when compared with the same period last year. But Home Secretary Priti Patel has warned that although total crime figures have dropped, as people follow advice to stay at home, criminals are adapting to take advantage of the ongoing pandemic. She highlighted how fraudsters are exploiting coronavirus fears to carry out a variety of new scams which have already made them over £2million.
Criminal scams have included fake online shopping opportunities and exploiting current shortages of vital supplies. Some people have placed online orders for personal protective equipment such as masks and sanitisers which then don’t arrive and the online seller then simply disappears.

UK crime data has highlighted that over 22,500 instances of garden and shed burglary are being reported annually. This equates to around 60 shed or garage break-ins every day and recent reports suggest that the frequency has been increasing during the coronavirus lockdown. The metropolitan police tell us that bikes, mowers, sports equipment, power tools and garden tools are the top items commonly stolen from sheds.
Our police forces have warned that people don’t tend to give their outbuildings, sheds and garages the same attention to security that they give to their homes. Yet sheds and garages are commonly used to store valuable, expensive property and burglars, knowing this, will generally try these easy targets first.

The Coronavirus lockdown is scheduled for review on the 7th May, at which time, the country will have been in lockdown for 6 weeks and a further extension of the lockdown is expected to be announced.
