Combination padlocks offer a practical alternative to a standard key locking type, and are ideal for certain types of application:
Popular uses include;
1. Those applications where an individual padlock needs to be used by multiple users and you don`t want to issue keys to each individual user.
2. Where you personally use lots of padlocks of different types and sizes, which can`t therefore all be keyed alike, combination padlocks which can all be set to the same combination code may offer a practical alternative.
Please bear in mind however that small, low cost combination locks may not offer the same level of security as a keyed lock, especially the 3 tumbler type which can obviously only be set with 999 different combinations.
Here are a few things to consider when choosing a combination lock;
Is the security level of the lock adequate for your needs?
- The more tumbler reels the lock has, the more combinations you can set.
- other security level issues to consider are the type and materials used for the lock body, the thickness of the shackle, etc
Are the tumblers easy to see or feel and use?
- would it be practical to use the lock in a dark location
Here are a few examples of combination locks;
Sterling 4 Tumber Combination Lock (base tumblers)
Squire 4 Tumber Combination Lock
Squire High Security Combination Anvil Lock (4 & 5 Tumbler options)
