HCSA (Horsdean Community Sports Association) Activity Updates

Based in Brighton & Hove, Horsdean Community Sports Association, are actively dedicated to providing and maintaining sports facilities for 6-7 day per week use, to a mixture of local youth football and cricket clubs, as well as for the local population.

Unfunded by the local authority, HCSA survive financially on sponsorship from Insight Security, grants obtained by application (in competition with other applicants), donations from local parties, income arising from any charitable events organised during the year, and modest membership fees and fees charged to the local clubs using the well maintained pitches and club house facilities. see the main HCSA page for more information.

Latest Activity Updates

July 2026 - Positioning the Secure Container in its permanent location.

The improved, drier ground condition, has allowed the repositioning of the 20 foot secure storage container purchased in January, to be relocated to the cleared permanent location.

...and it didn`t take long for it to be fitted out and commissioned for the safe storage of sports items and grounds maintenance equipment, including a heavy grounds roller.

April 2026 - HCSA Launch pre-Cricket season Tidy-Up Appeal

The Horsdean grounds are largely maintained by a great and dedicated group of volunteers, but every now and again, the wider community are invited to help, see the April Invitation.

January 2026 - Flood Alert, Year Ahead Planning, and Acquisition of a New Secure Storage Container

Action was taken to prevent damage to the 4 junior Football Pitches and Cricket Wickets, from the flooding around the perimeter of the recreation ground, arising from heavy and continious rain occuring over an extended period.

The football pitches have continued to be usable throughout for both training and match use, while the Cricket Wickets should be in good, useable condition as the season starts.

Although the recent wet weather has been somewhat exceptional, HCSA is in discussion with the local council to see what can be done to alleviate flood risk recurrence at the recreation ground.

Planning for the new cricket season has started, to ensure that the multiple wickets are available for use by the 5 junior, 5 senior and the womens cricket teams. In 2025 the site hosted 99 Cricket Matches, which is expected to be exceeded in 2026.

Following damage to some sporting and grounds maintenence equipment, HCSA has acquired a new 20` steel container to provide additional secure storage facilities.

The new container has been delivered to a temporary location at the grounds, and will be relocated to its permanent site location, when the ground has dried out enough to accommodate the use of the heavy lifting gear needed to move it.
