The Protector 16mm chain is guaranteed impossible to bolt crop by hand, which is a great reassurance if you are looking to use it to secure high value items or equipment such as motorcycles, ATVs, caravans, etc.

Please remember, if you are using your chain with other security devices, such as an in a ground anchor, chain and padlock combination, the whole system is only as good as its weakest link and sadly there are many inferior chains on the market! 

Pragmasis Chains - Quality & Performance

All Pragmasis Protector 16mm chains are approved by the UK Police.

These high grade Protector 16mm, Pragmasis chains really are impossible to bolt-crop by hand.

Thieves frequently use enormous, heavy duty Irwin Record 42" bolt croppers as their tool of choice, but our Protector 16mm chains have proven impossible to crop even with this powerful tool. In fact, if you keep trying to crop one of these chains, it is likely to be the jaws of the bolt croppers that break!

Our Protector security chains are the highest-approved chains on the market, this is largely down to the high grade European raw material used for their manufacture and the specialist and precise heat treatment process evolved over several years. You simply can`t buy better!

There are videos on the Internet showing inferior, invariably Far Eastern-produced, chains being cut in seconds with bolt croppers, but you won`t see our Protector chains being bolt-cropped - and that’s guaranteed!

Of course, a chain as robust as the Protector requires a padlock that will offer a complimentary performance, which is why we recommend the Sold Secure Gold rated Federal PD FD740P or Squire PD SS65CS Close Shackle Padlocks. 

Mobile and Bicycle Security

There are different priorities when it comes to mobile security as it is often impractical to carry heavy locks and chains around with you, but remember that over 80% of bike thefts occur from the home, so security at home should generally be your first priority.

There are however situations where the 16mm chains and the locks that go with them are simply too bulky or too heavy, which is why we also supply 10mm link chains. Although our 10mm chains are obviously not as secure as the 16mm chains, they still offer robust protection having achieved Sold Secure Gold rating for Bicycles (Sold Secure SIlver Rating for Scooters), are easy to handle and can be used with a lighter-weight padlock.

Bicycle security in particular is generally better handled with the 10mm - Sold Secure Gold (Bicycle) Chain as they will fit more easily through the spokes of bicycle wheels, and the smaller and lighter Federal PD FD730P (close shackle), or Federal PD FD730 padlocks are generally better suited for use with bicycles and various medium-value items. 

Chain Lengths and Weights

Normal stock lengths are 1.0m, 1.5m and 2.0m for the Protector 16 and for the the 10mm cycle chains (the 16mm chain is available in lengths up to 3.0metres) – but if you can`t see what you need, call our friendly team, we`d love to help, t: 01273 475500.

Chain Link Design and Dimensions

All of our Protector chains feature long-link design and are constructed from 16mm diameter bar.

The Protector 16mm chain links have nominal dimensions of: 132 x 62mm outside; 100 x 30mm inside, throughout its length which means that a special elongated end link is not required.

The use of long links throughout the length of the chain helps to reduce weight, while providing greater versatility and allowing the chains to be used with close shackle padlocks for maximum security.

The end link of the Protector 16mm long link chains can be looped through any intermediate link along the length of the chain. To pass a link through an intermediate link, you will need to cut a slit through the sleeve, but it offers the major advantage of being able to lock the chain tight against the item you are protecting, helping you to keep it off the floor, all of which makes it much harder to attack.

If choosing a ground anchor to use with your chain, choose one with a minimum aperture of around 65mm, as the sleeved chain is unlikely to fit easily through a smaller hole.

Overall chain lengths are also nominal, being subject to manufacturing tolerance as well as being potentially up to one link over or under the advertised length, because a whole number of links will invariably not be an exact number of metres or half-metres overall.

Wherever possible, keep your security chain off the ground, as this makes Cropping or Hammering type attacks much more difficult for the thieves.
