Sold Secure and CEN Rated Padlocks

Whilst some locks are submitted for Sold Secure testing, CEN testing is the more widely acknowledged rating platform for padlocks and it is therefore CEN ratings, which we have used wherever possible, to label the padlocks we sell.

Sold Secure and CEN (Central European Norm) tests, offer a standard platform for rating security products and deliver a level playing field for the products submitted for testing by all manufacturers.

As an example, you can be sure that a 60mm padlock from manufacturer “A” rated as CEN5, will offer a higher level of security, than a 60mm padlock from manufacturer “B” rated as CEN4, as both will have been subject to identical tests.

CEN ratings range from CEN1 to CEN6 (the highest grade), with CEN4 or higher being generally accepted as indicating high security padlocks.

There are of course some types of padlock, where for certain applications, functionality (such as combination rather than key operated locking), is more important than the highest level of security.

Whilst a combination padlock is unlikely to achieve a CEN rating, high quality combination locks such as those from the Squire range included in our portfolio, still offer a high level of security.
